cool Documentary- The Lightbulb Conspiracy

Since the 1920s, leading manufacturers of incandescent light bulbs have conspired to keep the lifetime of their bulbs far below actual technological limitations, ensuring the continuous demand for more bulbs and hence, long-term profit for themselves and employment for their workers. This was the birth of Planned Obsolescence, the cornerstone of the economic growth of the western world in the 20th century.Originally titled Pyramids of Waste, the documentary The Lightbulb Conspiracy addresses the arc and consequences of this policy. You can watch the film in its entirety below...

Having grown up in America in the late 20th century, it's pretty hard to escape the enormity of this problem, and my own complicity (however unknowingly) in it. As I get older, I really want to be a part of the solution, even while I know my practices both as a producer and consumer of goods are part of the problem.
Part of our goal here at RockPaperSoul is to find ways to minimize the negative impact of making printed goods. Recycling and Green production of consumer goods is part of it, smart use of electronic media is another.  These days, as I work at my new job, simultaneously working on models for different businesses I'm building, I want to do my part to slow and reverse the damage that modern lifestyles have inflicted on the ecosphere. Hopefully, it can be done without totally destroying our "way of life" in the process!
peace,
-Samax
